Managing OCD symptomsFacing fears & instilling confidence

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in children and teens can be challenging, but at Back in Charge, we believe it’s an opportunity to empower young people and their families to take control of their mental well-being.

OCD is a mental health condition characterized by unwanted, persistent thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or rituals (compulsions) that an individual feels compelled to perform in order to ease anxiety.

In children or adults,What are intrusive thoughts?

Intrusive thoughts are unwanted, distressing thoughts, images, or urges that seem to appear out of nowhere, causing anxiety or discomfort. For children and teens, these thoughts can be especially confusing and scary because they may seem irrational or even out of character.

They might worry about harming someone, being dirty, or something bad happening to a loved one. These thoughts are often persistent and hard to shake, making the child feel like they have to act in certain ways (like repeating actions or asking for reassurance) to make the anxiety go away. It’s important to remember that intrusive thoughts don’t define who your child is—they are simply thoughts that pop up and cause distress.

We prioritize science-backed methodsEvidence-based treatments for OCD

At Back in Charge, we help children and teens understand that intrusive thoughts don’t define them—they’re just anxiety talking. Using Exposure & Response Prevention and strong family support, we guide them in building confidence and taking back control from OCD.
